I much prefer using hope for motivation than fear, also. I clamp up, hide and sometimes quit when faced with fear. Well, some fear. Sometimes there is a fear which clamps tight, but, can be conquered when the belief in hope is strong.
What I truly hate are those boring everyday ridiculus fears. "Am I just a strange silly person?" and so forth. The daily dosage of doubts. Enough doubting seems to cause serious fear. It is disheartening to see others (for its fairly hard to pinpoint this in yourself) demeaning or doubting to the point of inaction. Actually I find myself in this predicament often. sigh.
Anyway, I enjoy the thought processes required when reading your
journal.
take care,
